Why was the association started?

The association was started in response to 2018 Budget announcements that directly affected the SMSF audit industry. ASIC approved SMSf Auditors are bound by Auditing Standards and must insist that legislation introduced does not conflict with these Standards.

SMSF AAA – Directors

Lina De Marco

Born and educated in Sydney, at a young age Lina secured a cadetship with Cooper & Lybrand while she completed her Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

Consciously deciding to then work for smaller accounting firms, Lina developed a passion for small business and empowering women in financial literacy and business management. She has always been an advocate for gender equality in the workplace.

In 2005, Lina established her own firm and for many years was also an educator at TAFE Digital imparting her accounting, business and management skills. Lina then became Senior Partner at a private firm before establishing Ademus Business Solutions.
Admitted as a member of Chartered Accountants (CA) in 2003, Lina is also an appointed Justice of the Peace, registered Tax Agent and ASIC approved SMSF auditor.

Gino has been a qualified Accountant and Tax Agent for almost 40 years and an SMSF Auditor for 10 years. He is a founding Member of the SMSFAAA and wanted to see SMSF Auditors represented by one organisation. He has sought to build a professional body that supports SMSF Auditors with advice and training as well as united representation with the Regulator in an increasingly litigious profession.

In his practice in Wetherill Park NSW, established in June 2000, Gino assists clients with small to medium size businesses and a portfolio of SMSF clients. Prior to venturing out in Public Practice, he worked his way up the Management ranks in the Banking Industry with CBA while studying at the New South Wales Institute of Technology. Originally joining the CBA to take advantage of the Bank’s study incentives including paying for all fees and allowing time off to study and take exams, Gino remained with the CBA where he attained extensive knowledge of finance and communication skills. These skills have benefitted him in Public Practice. In June 2000 Gino entered Public Practice where he has grown his business but where he continues to focus on a personal approach and contact with all clients.

He is being entrusted by a large number of SMSF clients, associations, cooperatives, not-for-profits, charities and individuals. His in-depth knowledge of industry best practices and the compliance requirements gives clients the assurance of having covered all the angles.

He is dextrous at simplifying the whole process for the clients. He takes pride in the ability to offer greater efficiency and effectiveness in business practices, without hampering quality and compliance for clients.

Up until 2020, Arif at SMSF madEasy offered a full A to Z suite of SMSF Administration and Compliance services, however following the recent SMSF Code of Ethics changes affecting SMSF Auditors, Arif made a conscious decision to focus solely on providing SMSF Audit and SMSF Structuring services to give his clients peace of mind knowing that he is an independent, fully compliant SMSF Auditor with no conflict of interest. Arif’s wealth of knowledge in SMSF Administration continues to be a big value-add for clients.

Karen Stewart

Auditors are probably on par with dentists; it’s not a pleasant experience but avoid them to your detriment. It’s this audit necessity that allows Karen Stewart to apply her friendly face to clients of KS Audit, rather than simply wielding a big audit stick. Karen is somewhat proud, in a social setting, when people are surprised at her profession, citing too much personality for a stereotypical auditor.

Karen embraces her inner nerd, though. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws that shall eventually be framed next to her Bachelor of Business (Accounting), Graduate Certificate of Financial Planning, and CPA membership. Karen writes a weekly article, Much Ado About Tax, in her local newspaper. She also allows herself an online soapbox writing personal articles for her two blogsites.

Karen is extensively involved with her local community, being treasurer to several not-for-profit groups and social welfare charities. She is mother to four children and enjoys restoring their 1930s cottage in the historic Camden town. Their expansive gardens provide the perfect outdoor lifestyle for their large family to play and their chickens to roam.
